Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope

As part of our preparation for FIRST Robotics Competition we went to a meeting with dr hab. Eng. Robert Mroczyński in the Institute of Microelectronics and Optoelectronics of Warsaw University of Technology, where we had a chance to see the clean room as well as some silicon wafers. One of our group members even offered to create a 3D virtual trip around the clean room. Then, having this year’s competition’s main theme being Star Wars in mind, we attended a lecture entitled “Laser – the power of light” hosted by dr hab. Eng. Ryszard Piramidowicz in the Department of Electronics and information Technology of Warsaw University of Technology. It featured the basics of laser beam’s structure and behaviour as well as its wide range of uses in technology, army, medicine and everyday life, it’s history (originating in 1917) and its features, such as an ability to reach great density of optic power, directionality, monochromaticity and continuity in time and space. As a final attraction we could admire a truly spectacular laser show. The knowledge gained today is sure to benefit us in the future. It was AWESOME 😉
